Chinon

Chinon is a picturesque town in the Loire/Vienne Valley situated in the historical region of Anjou. Its castle dominates the town, spreading widely on a high plateau behind a row of attractive houses that front the river.

Chinon became part of English history when Henry of Anjou succeeded his cousin Stephen to the throne of England in 1154. Local wine comes from the vineyards that cover the steep banks of the Vienne. Unusually for this area, it is mostly red wine from the Cabernet Franc grape, though some white wine (Chenin Blanc) is also produced.

The twinning charter between Tiverton and Chinon , a town of 8,450 inhabitants located in the Loire Valley, was officially signed in 1973 . However, these bonds of friendship between the two municipalities have been initiated in 1971 by language teachers from both cities, in an open class at the European culture.
